In just over two months we will be gathering in San Francisco for the annual AEJMC conference (August 5-9). Amy Jo Coffey, MMEC’s Vice-Head, and Axel Roepnack, our Research Chair, have been working hard to put together another great program for our division. The final program is being copy edited as we speak and will be published in July. In the mean time, here’s a preview of some of the exciting events taking shape:

  • a pre-conference workshop on The Media Entrepreneurship Mindset: Hacking the Ecosystem (registration is still open – secure your spot now!)
  • a pre-conference visit to the Googleplex
  • A PF&R Panel Session: Early Career Guidance: Landing the First Faculty Job and Beyond
  • A PF&R Panel Session: Second Screen: Status Quo, Trends, and Challenges
  • A Teaching Panel Session: Preparing Global Leaders in Journalism and Mass Communication
  • A Research Panel Session: Media Branding Revised: Participative Audiences
  • A Research Panel Session: Media Entrepreneurship Research on Trends and Challenges in Media
  • A Teaching Panel Session: Open Education Resources (OER) and Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) – How New Platforms are Changing Universities
  • four refereed research paper panels featuring 16 peer-reviewed papers (if you are presenting a research paper be sure to check out AEJMC’s paper presenter resources)
  • our division’s annual members meeting on Friday from 8:30-10:00pm

A basic outline of the conference schedule is now available at: http://aejmc.org/events/sanfrancisco15/schedule/

If you haven’t booked your hotel yet be sure to do that soon! The main conference hotel has already sold out, but AEJMC has announced several alternative conference hotels and a good hotel search engine will lead you do some other possibilities. Finally, are we MMEC or MMEE? Last fall the division voted to approve bylaw changes that will change our name from Media Management and Economics (MMEC) to Media Management, Economics, and Entrepreneurship (MMEE). The name change requires approval from the AEJMC board. The board will vote on the name change at its board meeting on Wednesday of the conference. Hopefully by the end of that day we’ll be able to call ourselves MMEE! Until then you’ll be seeing us listed as MMEC.
